Blockchains aren’t new to Google. In June earlier this year, the search giant announced that it was integrating its BigQuery data analytics platform with Chainlink, allowing data from outside sources to be used in applications built directly on the blockchain.
This move is relatively anticipated as rivals like Amazon and Microsoft are already in it with their infrastructure. One of the main reasons Flow was founded by Dapper Labs were those severe network bloat on Ethereum with Crypto Kitties NFT game back in 2017. With NBA Top Shot being their flagship project which smashed NFT records with $700 Million by Sept 2020.
With Google’s new partnership, Dapper Labs hopes to scale NBA Top Shot and other NFT specific projects on Flow to billions of users. Currently, few Ethereum based marketplaces are in the top spots in terms of volume and user adoption. But in the last couple of months, we have seen Gas prices spike up during major NFT drops.
Their collaboration with Giglabs has already produced some amazing NFT collections like Raceday NFTs and WNBA 25th anniversary NFTs.
And we're SOLD OUT 🎉!!

Roham, CEO of Dapper Labs, NBA Top Shot & Flow Blockchain expressed his excitement and growth stats in the tweet.
Amped to welcome Google to @flow_blockchain 🌊
— roham (@roham) September 14, 2021
In <1 year since #onFlow mainnet:
- 2.2M unique wallets, less than half from @nbatopshot
- 248 mainnet contracts (cf @flowverse_)
- 18.5M blocks and 49.7M tx
Now with 3000+ new devs building, Google jumps onboard to help scale 💪 https://t.co/0QmEdvogXh
Google’s North America Cloud VP Janet Kennedy quotes “Blockchain technology is becoming more and more mainstream. So companies like Dapper need scalable, secure infrastructure to grow their business, and even more importantly, support their networks. It's really about helping them with rapid and sustainable growth.”
Flow chain will have more benefit with this deal starting with infrastructure level upgrade, Geography specific node availability, and in future dedicated support in onboarding developers with archive nodes and smoother operation without network congestion. Which is crucial for NFT and Gaming ecosystems.
We do not have more information about the specifics of the deal at the time of writing, but we are sure of one thing 👉 Google is certainly bullish on NFTs in the long run.
