Vitalik in the Spotlight in Stoner Cats NFT Series

It has become an intrinsic part of ours to watch creative content on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, etc replacing cable TVs over the years. The ever-evolving blockchain has now facilitated a platform for the launch of such creative content too!  Alternative to the subscription amount paid to them, you could buy a few non-fungible tokens to watch the first adult animated NFT series launched on the blockchain, adding another feather to the diversity of applications the ecosystem offers.

The first of its kind, series “Stoner Cats” starring Mila Kunis, Jane Fonda and Ashton Kutcher are made even more special by introducing Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum playing the role “Lord Catsington”!!

The series showcases the story of five mischievous house cats living with their owner, an older woman called “Ms Stoner” with some existing medical conditions and eventually, the cats get high when inhaled medical marijuana when the owner accidentally drops it into the fireplace. The series apparently gets more interesting as the cats start talking.

How to watch the series?

In order to watch the first episode, you will have to buy an NFT depicting any one of the characters of the show - Fefe, Lord Catsington, Baxter, Dave, Hamilton and Reginald. Also, this NFT would act as a ticket to unlock all other “Stoner Cats” episodes as they are made.

The total 10,000 NFTs were sold out in less than 35 minutes which will cost you 0.35 ETH equivalent to $905 at the time of publication and the sale raised a total of $8.4 million. The secondary markets like Opensea are waiting to see the actual high in the future.

Involvement of Buterin:

Vitalik who is also being part of the Ethereum documentary plays the role of one of the cats who give advice to the five living cats of Ms Stoner, whose magical drop of weed has given her feline companions the ability to talk.

Buterin was seen in a video tweeted by Ashton Kutcher as part of “Kitchen Talks” in the middle of their casual meeting, where he could be seen explaining about Ethereum too.

“He doesn’t like cursing and his character said ‘f**k’ a few times, so he asked if they could change that and they were accommodating,” Morgan Beller, who left Facebook in September 2020 after co-creating the Libra project, said in an interview.

The entire cast, including Buterin, are being paid in ether. Buterin has announced that 100% of his pay will be donated to the SENS Foundation, a non-profit research organization focused on finding cures for ageing-related diseases. “We had to teach Jane Fonda how to set up a MetaMask wallet,” Beller joked.

All the cast members will receive equal pay based on the funding received in the initial stage of the NFT launch.

To Conclude

One of the main highlights of this content’s publication on blockchain could be that the creative aspect of the writer is in no way censored or is not forced to alter the original content by the institutions as in traditional cases.

In fact, the creators reached an idea of using NFTs to fund this particular series due to the concerns over censorship of the show’s drug content and a determination to keep the creative control out of the hands of the controlling organizations.

Also, the team behind the show expects that involvement of known people would bring in more awareness to the general audience regarding the blockchain. As quoted, “We see this as an opportunity to educate people [about crypto] and bring them into the fold. I personally think a lot of crypto resources are daunting. I think we need people and faces and voices that non-crypto people recognize and trust to start explaining these concepts. Even if this fails, we can make that happen.”
