This week’s ArtDrop is created by Komachi, an Italian illustrator who often creates seductive works of art. We interviewed Komachi to get to know her better.
When and how did you start creating art in general? Already at a young age or later on?
I have been drawing since a young age but my teacher at the time told my parents that I wasn’t talented, so I stopped. Thankfully, later on, I picked up my artistic side again. In 1999, I became a digital artist when the digital era started.
How did you develop your current style?
My biggest influence is my passion for Japan and Shunga paintings.
When I started creating digital art, I did so with photomanipulation. From there on, I learned to create illustrations, often representing geishas and sensuality. Later I mixed the 2 styles and started working with only lines - line-art as we call it.
My style has been there since the beginning. People recognize my work without references.
Today, my illustrations called b_lack are the representation of my story, a woman and her body communication, a woman with wounds and scars. These help me to remember that the body and emotions are not to be forgotten, and shouldn’t stay just on my mind. The black is the void, the absence, the place where things are created. Simple lines are perfect, they speak loud when telling stories. Their minimalism removes the clutter and enforces the message.
How did you get into NFTs?
I clearly remember it was the end of March 2021, a friend of mine from London wrote to me “do you know about NFTs?” Right after that, I barely slept for 4 days, searching the web for all the information I could find. I was hooked. There were no Twitter Spaces at the time, so the information was fairly little. I had no clue about crypto, nor platforms or wallets. I felt insecure, but I was also fascinated. So I dove in.
Now, besides being a crypto artist, I host Spaces, called KONFIDENCE, to help people to gain confidence in public speaking, learn more about crypto and to feel strong.
